How We Grow, Learn, & Live Through Food | S2E5

S2 E4 Featured in Episode: Princeton School Gardens Cooperative + Ethos Farm

Originally Aired September 2026

How do we teach the next generation about food?
How might what we grow and eat affect health?

From a school district treating nutrition and sustainability education as part of a normal school day as reading or math to a farm leading the way in connecting doctor, patient, and earth, in this episode we explore two New Jersey programs taking a bigger-picture approach to nutrition, education, farming, and health.

First, we head to Princeton School Gardens, where students are getting hands-on experience with food and growing through a wide-ranging network of programs and partnerships. For more than two decades, Princeton School Gardens has been helping students develop food systems literacy: from growing and preparing food to understanding where it comes from and how it connects to our environment and communities.

We learn about the ‘how’ behind creating this model and what other schools can follow to implement such a program.

Then, we travel to Ethos Farm in Long Valley, where the conversation expands from nutrition education to the connection between food, farming, and healthcare.

Founder Dr. Ron Weiss, Dr. Saul Bautista, and members of the Ethos team share their perspective on regenerative agriculture, whole-plant foods, lifestyle medicine, and how food can be an important part of preventing and addressing chronic disease. We explore the phrase “food is medicine”, how healthy soil connects to healthy food, and how communities can begin bringing more of these ideas into their own lives.

From inspiring the next generation to make healthier choices to rethinking the relationship between farming and healthcare, this episode asks an important question:

What would change if we treated nutrition education as an essential part of lifelong health?

We appreciate every watch, subscribe, and share. And please tell us: What would you like to see more of in your school or community?
