Learning how New Jerseyans cared for each other then — and what connects to now

First Aired July 2026

A journey through New Jersey history reveals insights and inspiration about health, wellness, and community.

In this episode of Healthy In The Garden State, we explore how the past continues to shape the way we understand health today. From Revolutionary-era public health efforts to the healing power of plants and the role of community spaces, New Jersey’s history offers lessons that still resonate.

Our journey takes us to three unique locations:

🩺 Morristown — where we uncover the story of smallpox inoculation and one of the earliest public health efforts during the Revolutionary era.

🏛️ Liberty Hall Museum — where we explore the stories, people, and traditions that helped shape New Jersey and our nation.

🌿 Rutgers Gardens — where we discover the connection between plants, nature, and wellness, and how gardens have long played a role in supporting health.

History is more than the stories of the past—it helps us understand where we’ve been, how we’ve healed, and how we can continue to build healthier communities for the future.

This episode of Healthy In The Garden State is proud to be an official partner of RevolutionNJ, New Jersey’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.
